I tried to get a different view of the Louisiana State Capitol. I made a few ducks pretty angry, who did not like me encroaching on their territory. Luckily they only made a small fuss before moving and letting me stand at the edge of the pond. I was already running through my mind what I was going to say if I was chased off by some mean ducks. :-)

overlapping memories
I got an accidental double exposure (or a ghost had some fun with my camera). The second shot is really faint so I'm not really sure what it is. The only thing I can really tell is that the second shot involved trees.

wounds
Here's some of the damage at Fort Pulaski. This is definitely a photographers paradise. I had fun exploring the grounds. Pretty much everything is open for the public to see, even the top level of the fort.

tin roof rusted
I've seen pictures from the Parker-Hickman Homestead in Erbie, Arkansas before. When Zack and I explored the area I asked to stop by. I wanted to see the place for myself. It really is a cool little place, and it's nice that it's now preserved by the National Park system. Hopefully it will be here for others to enjoy for a long time.

political storm
Here's another shot with the new Holga 120 WPC. This time I kept the shutter open for about 10 seconds. I've taken tons of shots of the Arkansas State Capitol now, but hopefully this one is a little different.

so pretty it should be in the movies
The Old Mill in North Little Rock, Arkansas is one of those places you should visit if you are in the area. I had put it off for the longest time because I've heard that over and over again. What can I say? I'm stubborn!
I actually didn't expect it to be as pretty as it was in person. A lot of things like that look great in pictures then are a let down in person. This place was really picture perfect. And hey! It was in Gone with the Wind!

when in venice
Here's another shot from the Winter Festival at Wildwood Park in West Little Rock, Arkansas. They set up tents or used pavilions to represent different regions of the world. This was the Venice area. I wish more of the lantern bags had been lit.

milestones in neon
This is the Palace Hotel and Bathhouse of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. It was built in 1901 and has interesting architecture such as the windows being set in the foundation. It can also boost that it was the site of the first neon sign West of the Mississippi River.

snowpocalypse!!!! omg
Okay, I'm sort of kidding and sort of not with the title. I'm not saying Arkansas snowfall is comparable to that of Washington D.C. and the rest of the North slammed by winter storms this year. For here it's pretty bad though! The thing is, we can get snow, but we always tend to get rain too. This leads to a packed and icy snow! Plus people are on the roads without snowtires and experience. We might not have the same sort Winters, but 6-8 inches of snow literally shuts down the state.
Having said that, I had a blast out in it today! I drove up to the Arkansas State Capitol before the rain started and grabbed a few shots. Then I spent about three hours walking around in my neighborhood enjoying the snow. I was giddy like a kid. I went to lunch with Ward who was marooned in Little Rock for awhile, and I just kept bursting into giggle fits over the meal watching the weather outside. I'm pretty sure my giddiness is the mean reason he decided to risk driving back to Conway. He made it thankfully.

and the clouds parted
This is one of those places my parents found. They are pretty good at building scouting. Dad mentioned this place quite a few time until I finally went. It's on Highway 60 between Conway and Perryville. I ended up being in Conway and having about 30 minutes to kill so I went wandering in search of St. Boniface Catholic Church. I'm glad I went. I had a different church in mind when he was telling me about it, but this one was even more amazing.

spork at your own risk
I saw the "Not Responsible for accidents" and I was left wondering what prompted the sign. Was it an incident similar to the scalding hot coffee at McDonald's? Did someone choke on a hot dog? Did a plastic knife actually cut something for once? Or was there a deadly spork standoff? (A snack attack!) These are things I need to know.
This was taken at the Booger Hollow Tabernacle. The place was pretty interesting, although I probably say that mostly because of the name.

holiday house
It's a bit late to be posting a festive image, but whateve. I head out to the Arkansas State Capitol to capture some of the holiday decorations. I managed the shots sans tripod in some fairly low light. I guess I hadn't been inside the Capitol since a Elementary School field trip. I had forgotten just how grand everything feels in there. I might have to go back and try to get some pictures without the decorations.

spiritual building blocks
I spotted this little church in Scott, Arkansas a while back. I didn't manage any good shots then, so I had it in mind for a reshoot for a while. I wanted to give it the Holga treatment. Here's a wider view of the place:

directing
Photography is a lot of things for me. I use it to remember and document my life. I use it to kill time. I use it as an excuse to go explore. It makes me happy. Sometimes it's a distraction and I use it to cope when something bad has happened. Maybe it's my adult version of a security blanket. It tends to be something I can go no matter what is going on. Sometimes it reinforces joy and sometimes it creates joy from the ashes of whats broken.
It's funny I can look at most of my pictures and tell what sort of mood I was in, even if it was a mood I didn't recognize at the time.
I was in a mood and took off for Northwest Arkansas for a few days in early December. I spent most of my time wandering in a haze just thinking about life and taking pictures. I came home in a better state of mind and with some pretty cool pictures. The shot above was taken in Prairie Grove, Arkansas. I love finding interesting little churches.

busting out
If cameras were people my 40D would be the type to just give in to whatever I say. If it did something weird it'd be from my own short-sightedness. There is no real surprises with the 40D. My holgas are like the friends you have for life yet never know what they will do next. It's a wild card. I've had entire rolls of film be rubbish. I actually been close a few times to throwing my 120N in the trash. I've thought, "Forget it. I'll use up the rest of this film, then I'm done!" Then the Holga turns things around and kicks out some great photos. If it were a relationship, Miss Holga and I would list our status as "it's complicated" on Facebook.
Miss Holga and I seem to be in a good place when it comes to black and white film. I shot two rolls back-to-back about a month ago. Every shot ended up being something I loved. Above is a shot from Scott, Arkansas. I like a lot of the little towns on Lonoke County. There's so many interesting old buildings.

pipe dreams
I took a trip to Keo, Arkansas to shot with the Holga. That area of the state is really great for the Holga. There's tons of old buildings full of detail that fit with the old style feel of the Holga. Also it's less than an hour from my house, which is always a great thing.

ivy house
This is part of the Grosse Point Lighthouse Museum in Evanston, Illinois. The building was already beautiful, but the ivy really made it something special.

legos get lomo'ed
I guess if I had any sort of style or trademark it would be these lego shots. I love how close up buildings layer together.
